Copyright Policies
I touched on this all in my Privacy Policies, but I will restate it here.
Copyright. In the U.S., for any work published after January 1, 1978, copyright protection begins at the moment of its creation and extends until 70 years after the author’s death. This law applies even if the creator does not actively register their work – it’s an automatic protection.
Publication Date. Any work published before 1924 (or 100 years prior to today’s date) is now in the public domain and can be used freely in your work.

Policies. Due to copyright laws, I NOT distribute, recreate, or sell works created by artists whose works are not in the Public Domain or those who died after 1924 (or any sooner than 100 years ago). This includes, but is not limited to, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, Any Warhol, and select works by Claude Monet (until 2026). All commissions must be public domain to remain within copyright laws and to prevent legal action being taken.
I operate inside the U.S. and must adhere to copyright laws inside my country of residence.
Private Works. If you have a private art piece that you yourself created and would like for me to recreate it with crochet, I am more than willing to do so and I would be honored. For these commissions, I will need a high-resolution image to use as a reference and map out for my processes.
Right to Refusal of Service
I hereby reserve the right to refuse service to anyone I choose for any reason. These reasons include, but are not limited to, rudeness, demand of my time and energy, demands of a price reduction or discount where none were offered, offers to buy the yarn for me in return for free labor, requests for any political pieces, and requests for handmade pieces that I am not willing or able to create due to detail requirement or personal morals.
I recreate famous artworks, I will not, under any circumstance, create any political piece or use someone’s likeness in my works.
Refund Policy
There is a no-refund policy for any work done by Us, Fortuneknot Designs. We are not liable for any damage during shipping, lost packages, destroyed items, stolen items, clothing maintenance that may cause damage to the piece, or any other instance of damage that was not caused by us directly.
Digital Patterns sold by Us are non-refundable through this Site or any other site where Fortuneknot Designs may be found.
If your piece was severely damaged in transit during shipping, provide pictures of the shipping box and the piece itself to validate any claims of damage. A full refund will not be issued, but discounts for a replacement may be given on a case-by-case basis if it can be determined that the damage was accidental and not deliberate.
What does the copyright policy mean for me?
This means, simply, that I will not infringe on copyright laws because you want a pretty painting on a cardigan or sweater. I do not believe in stealing artwork and I certainly don’t want to get fined or thrown in jail for this. So, when you are coming to me with a design, have a few in mind, just in case. If you are unaware of the publishing date for the painting then we can look at it together to see if it is public domain or not. I will only do public domain art pieces because this means it is free for anyone to use and profit off of. It’s why you can buy puzzles and fridge magnets of Starry Night by Van Gogh, because it essentially belongs to the public now. As long as these rules are followed, we will be able to work together.
